When looking for dental care for your children, you want to find a caring dentist who can provide your child with the preventative treatments they need to ensure their oral health. But it’s equally important to know that the dentist you choose is compassionate and sensitive to your child’s unique needs.
At Wausau Smiles Dental, we wouldn’t have it any other way! We respect your children as the important individuals they are and will go out of our way to help them see each dental visit as a positive, enjoyable experience.
A Gentle, Caring Approach
When your child first begins receiving dental treatment around the age of three, our primary goal is to get them started on a lifetime of excellent oral health. But we understand how scary a visit to the dentist can seem to a young child. An unfamiliar setting, new faces, and lots of strange-looking machines can feel pretty overwhelming!
Dr. Bushong has a gift for understanding the needs of children and providing the gentle care they need to help them feel safe and secure. Our entire team loves to help start kids off with a healthy approach to dentistry, and they make every effort to put them at ease during visits to our kid-friendly dental office.
Protecting Your Child’s Dental Health
Giving your child the gift of great oral health is one of the most important things you can do for them. We see children starting at three years of age because at this point, they usually have all their baby teeth and dental development really takes off.
You may wonder why it’s necessary to start them off at such an early age, but protecting the health of your child’s baby teeth is critical. Baby teeth are the building blocks for proper development of their permanent teeth, so it is essential to keep them healthy.
Preventative Treatments for Healthy Teeth
Losing a baby tooth too soon can lead to alignment problems with permanent teeth as they begin to emerge. If we find a cavity in a baby tooth, we need to fill it as quickly as possible to preserve the tooth and your child’s long-term oral health. In addition to regular exams and fillings, we may also recommend fluoride treatments to strengthen and protect their teeth.
Dental sealants act as a barrier to protect your child’s teeth from developing cavities. We may recommend sealants if their teeth are prone to cavities or if they have molars with uneven surfaces and deep grooves.
If your child is older and has their permanent teeth, they may also benefit from the application of dental sealants. This extra layer of protection is especially helpful during the teen years when kids are more likely to develop cavities.
Prompt Care When You Need It Most
We want you to have peace of mind in knowing that we are always here for you and your child. Kids of all ages are especially prone to dental emergencies, and we will make every effort to see them the same day if possible.
Our entire team would love to welcome you and your child to our dental family. Please contact our office, and we’ll be happy to arrange a convenient appointment for you to stop by for a visit.
